Process Reflection 1
I have read multiple articles to expand on my topic and questions, specifically analyses of certain horror movies that reflected the time in which they were made. I also found timelines of significant moments in the horror genre from made by others to help me form my own. At Galloway, I plan to speak with Mr. Mathis because I know he talks about one of the first significant horror movies in his European History class. I hope to learn more about how societal fears are shown in horror movies. The first question I would ask him is what is significance of the film and the most important question I would ask is how he think the film is a reflection of the time period in which it was made. I am not sure yet who I want to communicate with externally but I hope to find someone who can help me expand on why horror movies are made. I would ask them why they think horror films were first created and what they think the genre will look like in the future. The next questions that will help me develop my thinking are why we make horror films in the first place and why there is an audience for them. Moving forward I need to gather more research and collect all of my information into one place to better organize it.
Process Reflection 2
So far I have planned out each section of the written component of my project, and gone more into detail with planning specific part of my outline. I have all of the information I want to include, but I still need to write my rough draft. I have discovered that the most important ideas of my central question are how the major themes of horror cinema in each period of history connect with the common fears of the time. I have discovered that in order for people to understand the significance of my project I need to give context for each point in history. I also want them to be able to connect to some of the fears even if they didn't live through that time. I think I want to make some sort of interactive timeline that displays how horror has changed over time in response to events in history. I could include major moments in horror cinema and then give an explanation for them. (for example: the original King Kong movie is a metaphor for racism) I was really inspired by the example artifact that demonstrated the depth of the ocean, and It gave me the idea to create a timeline. One of my ideas is to do this digitally, so I might consult my mom who has a background in graphic design for ideas on how to execute it. To plan out my artifact, I will need to sketch ideas on how to best represent the timeline and decide whether I want to do it digitally or physically. My next questions are to think about the future of horror, which is the last part of my written component.
